Traditional Design Services

You value the importance of good design, but you don’t have the time to bring your ideas to life. We’ll work with you to create a design that speaks to you, and we’ll transform the space for you.

What to expect

We’ll work with you to define your style, needs for the space, and the emotions you want it to evoke. Then we’ll create a design that solves your problems. Once we get that exactly as you like it, we’ll take it from there to deliver your project on time, and on budget.

 This is for you if…

You have an idea of what you want but you don’t have the time or resources to do it on your own

You want someone to translate your vision and initial ideas into a design and implement the work on time and on budget.

You want your designer to coordinate with consultants and trades as needed

Sounds like you? Get in touch!

This isn’t for you if…

You are more hands-on and want to manage the project on your own

You only want guidance and inspiration, not execution

If this is more what you are thinking,

What you’ll get

INITIAL CONSULTATION

Align the space with your needs. Meet with your designer and make sure the relationship is a good fit. We’ll go over the design process, inventory furniture pieces, and get site measurements. Here we’ll do a project review and clarification of style preferences. From this, we create a scope of work outline that will confirm all of this to ensure we make the space that solves your design concerns and a place that brings you joy.

DESIGN PRESENTATIONS

Let’s see the inspo! Now we design within budget, translating consultation to a unique design. This process lasts anywhere from weeks to months depending on aligned scope of work. Presentation includes moodboards, plans, loose renderings, material samples, budget spreadsheets, and more. This phase could have multiple meetings, site visits, and calls. The important part here is that we communicate to make sure the plans are just as you like. Measure twice, cut once.

PURCHASE + CONSTRUCTION

Once you sign off on design presentations, it is time to start buying. Orders are prepared for the client (or designer on the client’s behalf) to start making purchases. Shop drawings are carefully reviewed and signed off for build. Construction drawings are created and sent to the contractor, ready for building. Site visits are conducted as needed.

INSTALLATION + CLOSE OUT

Depending on your level of collaboration, we do this on site, with or without you. With construction complete, we conduct a final deficiency walk through. Furniture and finishing details are installed, telling your stories through the space. This includes artwork, curtains, lighting, and detail decor accents.

Kind words

“We had the best time working with Jillian! She is so talented and easy to work with. She really grasped our style early on and has helped us transform our space into one that brings us joy, daily. I would recommend Grid + Gertie to anyone!”

Let’s work together

Our design process

Each design job is different and each space its own opportunity. While each project and client are unique and individual in nature, our design process typically, and a bit organically, follows this approach:

- 1 -

INITIAL CONSULTATION

All of our projects begin with an initial consultation. It’s when we get to know you, your home or office, how you live and operate in your space, and what you’d like to change. This initial meeting is incredibly valuable for gathering the necessary information and determining how best to support you on your project. We often find that this meeting benefits the client as well as our questions, the site walkthrough, and our first impression thoughts or suggestions might trigger project ideas and opportunities.

- 2 -

ESTABLISH THE SCOPE

Following our initial consultation, you will receive a quote outlining our project scope of work. Upon review and signed approval of outlined services, a deposit invoice and contract are sent out. Once we receive the signed contract and deposit, we jump right into the good stuff.

- 3 -

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

Programming, Concepts, and Preliminary Design Presentations

At our first design presentation, we share our initial thoughts for our recommended layouts, concepts, and selections. We review project budget and timelines, and any outstanding items. During this meeting and in the time that follows, we want to hear from you! We’re open to your feedback and suggestions.

- 4 -

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

After the schematic design presentation, we take your feedback on the preliminary design and work on drawing revisions, FF&E specifications, project schedule, and budget coordination. This is the nitty gritty of the project. There will be communication back and forth during this phase while we work towards finalizing project documents.

- 5 -

FINAL DESIGN + DRAWINGS

With design development complete, we present the final design direction. Final selections are made, plans are complete, and we are ready to sign off for implementation!

- 6 -

ORDERS, CONSTRUCTION + INSTALLATION

With the plans and specifications finalized, it is now time to place orders, start site construction (scope dependent), and coordinate delivery and installations. We now get to see the design take shape and come to life!

- 7 -

PROJECT CLOSEOUT

We made it! Now for the exciting part, the final project walkthrough and close out of the completed space. Here you can expect a site walkthrough to note any construction deficiencies, outstanding items, on-site furniture placement and styling. Our goal is to make your project complete your needs, your vision brought to life, and a space that brings you joy.

Frequently asked questions

When can I expect the first meeting?

This ebbs and flows with the seasons, but we book you in as quickly as possible. Once you connect and fill out the questionnaire on our site, you’ll get an email with next steps to book your consultation. We’ll reach out to you shortly after hearing from you, usually within three days.

What if the package scope changes during development or on consultation call?

No problem! Our goal is to design a space that meets your needs and brings you joy. We will collaborate to find the solution that works for you. We can make revisions within the scope of work or change the scope as needed.

When can I expect the first mood/design boards?

This will be discussed in our initial meeting, and can depend on your timeline and our schedule. The biggest factor here is the scope of your project. Generally, you will receive a scope of work to review a week after our consultation and the first moodboard will follow sign off.

Will we have a meeting to discuss the direction to go in following design options?

With the full design package, you can expect collaboration at every step of the process. Once we present you some design options, we’ll get your feedback, and make any necessary revisions. Then we’ll meet again, and again after that, if we need! Once you sign off on the plans, we’ll take the bull by the horns and deliver the space you’ve been dreaming of.

How many options will I receive?

We work to deliver a vision that solves your challenges. We’ll work through the design process with open lines of communication until we have the perfect concept.

What if the furniture you suggest becomes discontinued?

Since we will be supplying options for purchase, we’ll find other suitable options to review. Once you sign off, we can work together to prepare for order.

What if I have more questions or need clarification during the implementation on my own? Quick questions vs additional services.

That’s why you chose the full design package! Ask us as many questions as you need. If we need to address something out of scope, we'll talk about adding to your project. You’ll never be surprised with an invoice.
