Hello there! Welcome to Grid+Gertie Design Studio. A studio where we conceptualize and create spaces that bring joy to your everyday. At the helm of Grid+Gertie is Jillian.
Born and raised on a grain farm where the grid road meets Gertrude road, Jillian's passion was ignited as a young girl. She created Barbie house floor plans out of blocks, built elaborate Lego castles, and designed and constructed forts in the wilds of the prairie. Always rearranging and organizing spaces, when she designed the ultimate sun, moon, stars themed bedroom at 16 (ahem, 1997), Jillian recognized her calling.
Following her purpose and pursuing her passion, Jillian earned her Bachelor of Applied Interior Design Degree from Mount Royal College (now Mount Royal University) in 2005. She spent the next fifteen years in commercial design working on projects across the country in the telecommunications sector. It was during these years that a combination of design programming research, a love for colour, layering textures, and exploring new furniture and finishes flourished. This fueled Jillian’s creativity and grew her ability to solve design problems and meet the needs of unique and evolving projects. Life in corporate Calgary was a fast paced and dynamic phase of life that was both challenging and exciting. In the background though, there was always a longing for home. For a life built on simple pleasures and grid roads.
In the summer of 2018, Jillian packed up the family, her beloved chair hoard, and countless boxes of vintage dishware, in anticipation of returning to her roots in beautiful rural Saskatchewan.
Nestled on the quilt pattern fields of the prairies, Grid+Gertie Design Studio is founded on the belief that everyone has a story, and that all spaces should be a reflection of those stories. A space where the clean lines of a leather modern lounge chair intersect with the worn finish of an inherited vintage wood side table. Where your framed children’s art and growing book collection are just as much of your home’s identity as the detailed millwork and carefully selected fixtures and finishes. Where a floor plan revision captures your company’s growing needs while at the same time allowing your core values, branding, and history to be functionally reflected in the work space.
Our goal is to allow your life to happen as it will, all while making it as peaceful, inspiring, and comfortable as possible through the creation of unique and personalized spaces. G+G will bring joy to your everyday life.
